Tony Carpenter completed his 12th season as head women’s volleyball coach at Arcadia University in 2014. He is the fifth head coach in the NCAA Division III era of the program, and holds the program record for career victories with 115.
The Knights posted an overall record of 15-10 in 2014, marking the fifth-highest win total in program history, and made their first-ever ECAC Division III tournament appearance. That ECAC berth marked the first postseason appearance for Arcadia since it qualified for the 2007 Freedom Conference tournament.
Carpenter inherited a program that won just five matches the year before, and nearly doubled that win total as the team went 5-5 in conference play and qualified for the 2003 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Championship Tournament.
The Knights recorded double-digit win totals in four of five seasons from 2005-09. Arcadia won 12 matches and finished third in its only season in the Freedom Conference in 2007, which qualified the team for the conference tournament. The Knights just missed out on a playoff berth in their final PAC season in 2006 after finishing in a three-way tie for the sixth and final conference tournament berth.
Arcadia tied for fifth in each of its first two seasons in the Commonwealth Conference, which included posting an overall record of 13-11 in 2009 and falling one win shy of a postseason berth. He picked up his 100th career win as the Knights posted a 3-2 win at Gwynedd-Mercy College September 28, 2014.
There have been five All-Conference selections from Carpenter’s team, including two Second-Team selections and three Honorable Mentions. Since going the Middle Atlantic Conferences in 2007, Arcadia student-athletes have earned a spot on the MAC Academic Honor Roll 37 times.
Carpenter spent six seasons as an assistant women’s volleyball coach at his alma mater, Eastern University. He has additional experience at the club and high school levels, including a five-year run as the head coach of the Gryphons Volleyball Club in Radnor.
Carpenter received his bachelor’s degree in Health & Physical Education from Eastern University in 2005, where he was a member of the baseball, men’s tennis and men’s volleyball teams.
