ELIZABETHTOWN, PA: (Oct. 16, 2010) - Arcadia University Men's Soccer was dealt a 1-0 loss in Commonwealth Conference play Saturday evening by their host, the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown College. Today's win for Etown avenges a pair of 1-0 Arcadia wins in the 2009 season as the Blue Jays improve to 9-1-2 and remain perfect in league play at 4-0. Arcadia falls to 7-7 overall and 2-2 among their Commonwealth opponents. The Knights are currently third in the league standings with a road game at Albright on Wednesday followed by a two-game home stand to close out the regular season against Lebanon Valley (10/23) and Alvernia (10/30).
The hosts used their nogen for their only two shots of the first half, the first of which the wind carried wide just 1:51 into the game, the second stopped by Knight first year keeper
Ryan Lantzy (Pheonixville, PA/Pheonixville) in the 32nd minute. Junior
Brian Devlin (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) and first year
David Jacobs (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) registered the Knight's only two shots on the frame of the half, each one stopped by Etown keeper Eric Carr to preserve the scoreless game into the break.
Both teams returned to the pitch for the second half with all systems go but for the visiting Knights, they would quickly find themselves playing what would turn out to be an unsuccessful game of catch up. Just two minutes into the half Etown was awarded a pair of corner kicks, both times they came up empty. But in the 57th minute, they would convert. Chris Rice played a cross into Javeim Blanchette who rose above the Knight defense and headed a pass to
Andrew Federman who collected the ball, turned, and scored to the left side past Lantzy giving Etown a 1-0 lead they would never relinquish. The Knights would manage three off-target shots before first year
Nick Morris (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) would find the frame, however, Carr was there to keep Arcadia off the board. One final shot on net by sophomore
Spencer Lalk (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) in the 84th minute was also turned away by Carr who finished with 4 saves in the shutout. Lantzy registered five saves in the loss for Arcadia. Etown finished with a 9-8 edge in shots and 5-2 lead in corner chances.
The Knights will play under the lights at Albright College this Wednesday at 7 PM in Reading.
