Glenside, Pa. - (Oct. 23, 2010) - Arcadia University men's soccer blanked Lebanon Valley College 3-0 in game 2 of today's womens and mens double-header. Entering the final 3 conference games of the season only 2 points seperated the two opponents prior to the game. The win supplies Arcadia with nice firm grip on the third place spot as they improve to 9-7 overall and 4-2 in the Commonwealth. The loss drops the Dutchmen to 8-6-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the conference. The Knights would only need to wait a few hours to find out that a scoreless draw between Widener and Alvernia on Saturday night would seal the Knight's second straight trip to the Commonwealth Conference Championships as Arcadia secured either the #3 or #4 seed for the post-season.
The Knights once again did it with the defense as they suffocated Lebanon Valley from the start allowing them only 1 shot in the first half and 5 for the game. Senior Jeff McDonald (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge), ignited the offense for Arcadia when he fed senior Joe Clementi (Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) in the last 10 minutes of the first half for a goal off of a corner opportunity.
Coming out of the locker room with a 1-0 lead, it did not take long for the Knights to strike for goal number two. Clementi added an assist to his game opening goal when he fed sophomore Zach Todd (Cape May, NJ/Middle Twp.) who scored, giving the Knights a comfortable 2-0 lead. As the second half went by Arcadia continued to dominate as senior, Tim Svitak (Marlton, NJ/ Cherokee) cemented the victory for the Knights with his first goal of the season.
The 3 goal lead was more than enough for first year keeper, Ryan Lantzy (Pheonixville, PA/Pheonixville) who saved 3 shots on the way to his fifth shut-out performance of the year.
The Knights tripled the Dutchmen in shots (15-5) on the way to the win. Lebanon Valley Keeper, Joe Clements finished with 8 saves for the Dutchmen. Following Today's game, Arcadia welcomes Moravian College to Glenside, Pa (4PM, Oct. 27) for a non-conference match-up.
