Women's soccer clinches home field with 1-0 win

Glenside, Pa. - (Oct. 23, 2010) -Junior Ashley Knueppel (Toms River, NJ/ Toms River North) scored the lone goal for #3 Arcadia as the Knights held on for a 1-0 Commonwealth victory over visiting Lebanon Valley College Saturday afternoon.  Sophomore Jackie Law (Scotch Plains, NJ/ Scotch Plains Fanwood) picked up her 8th shutout of the season as today's win gives Arcadia the #2 seed for the league playoffs and home field advantage. The victory extends the Knights win-streak to 4 as they improve to 13-3-1 overall and 5-1 within the Commonwealth.  Lebanon Valley drops to 9-6-2 overall and remain in contention for the Commonwealth playoffs with a 2-2-1 record in conference play.

The Dutchmen made Law work for the shutout as they sent 13 shots on net, including 11 in the first half.  Already earning the school record for career shutouts, Law's performance in front of the stingy defensive  play of Arcadia's back line, was enough to give her her fourth straight opponent blanking, as she illustrated zero dropoff after being named Commonwealth Conference Goalie of the Week last Monday.

Although Law was perfect in net, Knueppel's 6th goal of the season gave the Knights the win.  The goal came off of a nice assist from first year Sara Volk-Perez (Mays Landing, PA/Oakcrest).

The Knights led in both shots (17-15) and corners (4-3).  Lebanon Valley Keeper, Sami Young finished with 8 saves for the Dutchmen.  Senior Katie O'Malley (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville Area) finished with 5 shots on goal to lead the Knight offense.  Today's game winner was the fourth of the season for Knueppel.

The Knights have a week to rest from game-play before attempting to keep their momentum rolling when they take on conference rival Alvernia University next Saturday (Oct. 30) at Noon in Glenside, Pa.
