SWARTHMORE, PA: (Oct. 6, 2010) - Swarthmore College jumped out to a two goal advantage mid-way through the first half and held on to defeat Arcadia Field Hockey 3-2 in non-conference play. Arcadia (7-5, 1-1) was able to close the lead to 2-1 at the half before Swarthmore adding another insurance goal in second. The Knights would score with 7 minutes to go in the contest, but failed to score the equalizer and take just their 5th loss of the season.
keeper Marissa Perez (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) to give the Garnett the 1-0 advantage. Four minutes later, after earning a penalty stroke Swarthmore would strike again to take a two goal lead with just over 13 minutes remaining in the first half.
Abigail Brockelbank (Raymond, ME/Windham) would take the pass from senior Adrianne Altera (Califon, NJ/Voorhees) and net one past the Swarthmore defense and goalie to pull the Knights within one goal at 2-1 at the half. The goal was Brockelbank's second on the season, and Atlera's seventh assist.
Ashley McCarthy (East Norriton, PA/Norristown) fed a pass to sophomore Marilyn Beatty (Chalfont, PA/North Penn) who found the back of the goal for her eighth goal of the season. With the score the Knights were again within one goal, however, time ran out, and the Knights were tagged with the loss.
Sarah Baumgardner (Hatboro, PA/Upper Moreland). Baumgardner went the remaining 47 minutes for Arcadia in goal saving a game-high 5 shots, with one goal against.
