Offensive Struggles Doom Knights

SWARTHMORE, PA: (Nov. 17, 2010) – The Arcadia Knights Men's Basketball team struggled to find an offensive rhythm all night and were dealt their first loss of the season at the hands of the Garnet of Swarthmore College (2-0) 69-47 in non-conference play.  The Knights (1-1) shot 32.1% from the field, including just 16.7% from behind the 3-point arc.  Swarthmore was able to capitalize on the Knight's offensive woes collecting 31 defensive rebounds en route to shooting 49% from the field.

Swarthmore held the lead all evening from the first 3 pointer of the ballgame.  The Knights were able to keep pace with the Garnet for a couple minutes, but turnovers, 14 for the game, and missed shots (8-26 FG in 1st Half) proved too costly as the Knights found themselves down 37-22 at halftime.  Arcadia did not give up in the second half though, and were only outscored 32-25, but like the first half, missed shots (10-28 FG in 2ND Half) were too much for the team to rebound from.

Jose Ortiz '13 (Philadelphia, PA/Math, Civic, & Science) led the Knights with 13 points, his second straight game in double figures, and led the team in rebounding with 6.  Chris Pearson '11 (Philadelphia, PA/Penn Wood) added 11 points along with 4 steals in his 22 minutes of play.  Junior Colin McCarthy '12 (Langhorne, PA/Holy Ghost Prep) was able to put up 8 points along with a team-high 3 assists.  Swarthmore was led by four players in double figures with Will Gates, scoring a team high 16 points.

Head Coach Pat Dorney commended Swarthmore on their play in the game stating that “Swarthmore is a long team and was able to disrupt where we caught the ball and forced us to take difficult shots.”  The Knights will not have much time to dwell on the loss as they prepare for a trip to Scranton to participate in the University of Scranton's Radisson Invitational, where they will face the host school on Friday, November 19 at 7:30 PM .  They will play a second game on Saturday, November 20 at 2:00 PM or 4:00 PM depending on Friday's outcome.  Once they get home from that, the Knights will travel north on Route 309 to Gwynedd Valley for a battle against non-conference rival Gwynedd Mercy on Tuesday, November 23 at 7:00 PM
