Knights pocket second straight, defeat Penn State Abington 64-42

ABINGTON, PA:  (Nov. 17, 2010) - A scary start for Arcadia University quickly turned into a game decisive first half for the Knights who cruised to a 64-42 win over Penn State Abington in non-conference Division III women's basketball action Wednesday night.

The Knights pick up their second win of the season but would lose junior Ashley Gripper not even two minutes following tip-off after a hard collision along the sideline at half court.  It could have rattled the Knights but instead they came together, fueled by 11 first half points from Gripper's partner in the backcourt, sophomore Angie Adams, who finished as Arcadia's high scorer with 13.  Senior Corrine Geiger and sophomore Jackie Law dominated the paint in the opening stanza and didn't provide the Nittany Lions with much to shoot at.  Law would finish with 5 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals while Geiger scored 6 and pulled down 5 rebounds.

Arcadia would hit seven three pointers, including a pair from first year Jenna Crothers who contributed 9 points on the evening.  Senior Kelly Donahue scored her 8 points in the second half and was the lone Knight to enjoy a perfect night at the free throw line, where she went 3-3.  Arcadia shot just 56% from the stripe on the game, an area that will need to improve by the start of conference play on Dec. 1.

Junior Marsharen Dupont added 6 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals, first year Jessica Campbell scored 5 and grabbed a team high 8 boards, while first year Christie Kershaw chipped in with 5 points and 6 caroms.

After shooting 53% from the floor in the opening half, Arcadia would struggle in the second half, hanging  on to out-shoot Penn State 36% - 25%, while rebounds went the way of Arcadia 46-44.

Penn State (0-1) got a game high 15 points from Samantha Frick and 10 from Elizabeth Hilbert.

The Knights travel to St. Mary's City, MD on Friday for a two-day tip-off tournament at St. Mary's College.  Arcadia plays the host at school at 6 PM on Friday evening.
