Knights survive Rosemont second half surge

ROSEMONT, PA (Dec. 17, 2010) – The Arcadia University Men's Basketball Team ended their first semester of play with a hard fought victory against Rosemont (3-6) by a score of 55-51.  The Knights held a 33-22 lead at halftime and despite being outscore 29-22 in the second half, as well as not scoring until the 11:45 mark of that half, the team came out on top.  The Knights improved to 4-6 overall (0-2 C'wealth) with the victory.

The first half was dominated by the Knights as they held the lead from the 13:57 point onward, shooting 44.8% (13-29) from the field including 40% (4-10) from beyond the arc.  Bench scoring was pivotal for the Knights as they outscored the Ravens 20-4, including contributions from Colin McCarthy '12 (Langhorne, PA/Holy Ghost Prep) who came off the bench to put up 9 points in 11 minutes and Chris Pearson '11 (Philadelphia, PA/Penn Wood) who contributed 7 points in 9 minutes.  Arcadia also rebounded Rosemont by 5 (19-14) including 6 offensive rebounds paced by Darrell Mills '11 (Philadelphia, PA/Engineering & Science) who grabbed 6 boards.  First year Aaron Benusis '14 (Bristol, CT/Eastern Bristol) solidified the defensive end for the Knights in the first half with 3 key blocks.

An 11 point lead for the Knights disappeared in about five minutes as the Ravens stormed out with an 12-0 run as they took a 36-33 lsecond half ead.  The teams battled back and forth and the Knights were able to regain a 10 point lead at the 4:04 mark as well as fight off a late run by the Ravens to preserve the lead with the four point victory.

The victory by the Knights was a true team effort with many players contributing on the court.  Damien Palantino 'GR (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) led the Knights with 17 points including three treys and a key layup and subsequent foul shot to finish the three-point play with 14 seconds to go in the game, while McCarthy came off the bench to put up 13 points including shooting 3-5 from the charity stripe.  Freshman Rashon Brock (Buena, NJ/Buena), played his “best game as a Knight,” according to Head Coach Pat Dorney, contributing 8 points as well as 3 steals on the defensive end.  For the Ravens, Harrison Carsillo and Tremell Green led the team with 14 and 12 points respectively.

The Knights victory ends the first semester of games for the team. They take the court again hosting Moravian on January 5th at 7 PM for the first of a season long four game homestand.
