Knights lose a battle on the road at E'town

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA:  (Dec. 4, 2010) -  Elizabethtown College scored six points from two costly turnovers committed by Arcadia University in the final :54 seconds to play to secure the 57-50 win in Commonwealth Conference women's basketball play Saturday afternoon at Thompson Gymnasium.  The loss is the fourth straight for the Knights and second in league play, however, the team proved resilient in the second half, finding themselves tied at 50 with 2:20 to go.

Jackie Law '13 led Arcadia with the double-double on 13 points, 13 rebounds.  Christine Taylor '12 also scored 13 for Arcadia while Angie Adams '13 added 11 points and 4 assists.  Elizabethtown's Meghan Strohman led all scorer's with 23 points while teammates Stephanie Ellwood scored 11 and Kaity Snyder 4 with 9 rebounds and 5 assists.

The Blue Jays (4-2, 1-1 CC) controlled the first ten minutes of play, while Arcadia flirted with tying the game at 9:47 when Adams sank a three pointer for a 13-12 Etown edge.  Law kept it a one point Etown lead when she hit for two at 8:16.  Taylor, who nailed a game-tying second half three pointer on the road at Eastern earlier this week, came through in the clutch again, this time draining a critical first half three pointer at 6:35 giving the Knights their first lead of the game, 17-15.  The Blue Jays would tie it twice before Strohman hit for three giving Etown the 22-19 advantage.  Arcadia's Krista Hsu '14 pulled down a defensive carom and was fouled, hitting both tosses to knot the score at 23 under two minutes to play in the half.  Law would then put Arcadia on top by two, 25-23 but the Knights sent Strohman to the line to send the game into the half tied at 25.

Ellwood sank a three ball to open second half scoring for the Blue Jays but another three pointer from Adams opened up a 14-12 run for Arcadia.  During the run, Hsu drove for two inside to tie the game at 37 with 12:17 remaining and Law did the same at 11:43 to give the Knights the lead back 39-37.  With 10:26 to go and the Knights up 40-39 the lead would change hand four more times, ending with another long range bucket from Taylor at 3:23 with AU on top 49-47.  It would be short-lived however when Strohman worked her way inside for two at 3:07 to put Etown back on top 50-49.  A charity toss from Adams at 2:20 was good enough to force one final tie score before the Knights failed to protect the ball in the final minute of play.

The Knights out-shot Etown 39% - 33% from the floor but were out-muscled on the glass 43-36.

Arcadia (2-5, 0-2 CC) loos to snap their winless streak when the team travels to Penn State-Hazleton on Dec. 6.
