Win streak haulted in field hockey's 2-1 loss at Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE, PA:  (Sept. 11, 2010)   Lindsey Davenport saved 18 shots as Wilkes University defeated Arcadia University 2-1 in non-conference field hockey action on Saturday night at the Ralston Athletic Complex. Tonight's loss is just the first of the season for the Knights whose 3-0 start was the best in the program's NCAA history.  Now at 3-1, Arcadia will look to right the ship on Thursday, Sept. 16 when they host Moravian College at 4 PM.

After a shot from the center of the circle by senior Ashley McCarthy (Norristown, PA/Norristown) clanked off the left goal post, the Knights were able to get on the board at the 24:59 mark of the second half, as first year Abigail Brockelbank (Raymond, ME/Windham) found the back of the cage off a rebound of her own shot.  It was the first year's first collegiate goal.  Arcadia would get off six more shots in the game's final eight minutes, but each time was turned away by Davenport who seemed to close off every opening the Knights were able to find.

Arcadia keeper Marissa Perez (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) turned aside two of Wilkes' four shots on goal.  The Knights were awarded 17 second half corner opportunities, and took the advantage 22-7 on the game but were unable to solve the hot goaltending of Davenport. The Knights also held the advantage in shots 30-10.

Sophomore Marilyn Beatty (Chalfont, PA/North Penn) led the Knights with 8 shots on goal, while McCarthy added four shots on goal to lead Arcadia's offensive effort.
