GWYNEDD-VALLEY, PA: (Sept. 15, 2010) - Junior Ashley 'Roo' Knueppel (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) scored in the 10th minute of today's non-conference game at Gwynedd-Mercy College to give Arcadia Women's Soccer the early 1-0 lead where it stood through regulation. Senior Katie O'Malley (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville Area) assisted on the game winning goal as the Knights improve their win streak to five games (5-2). It is the second straight game winner from Knueppel, and fourth goal of the season for the junior.
With shots 8-4 in favor of the Knights, defense ruled on this afternoon with only one deadly strike necessary. That strike came at 10:31 of the first half when O'Malley served up a powerful ball from just inside the midfield that found it's way to the 5'1 Knueppel, who rose above the Griffin defenders and headed the ball past Gwynedd keeper Abby Reed for the 1-0 Arcadia lead and eventual game winner.
The Griffins led in corner opportunities 3-2 but fall to 2-3-1 overall on the season. Junior
Stephanie Welch (Port Murray, NJ/Moravian Academy) led the Knights with 3 shots on goal, while senior
Janelle Jablonski (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) registered 2 shots while senior
Stephanie Edson (Milton, PA/Milton) and first year
