Glenside, PA: (Sept. 20, 2010) - Arcadia University fell to the Aggies of Delaware Valley College this afternoon, 2-1, their first home loss on the season. The Knights played tough throughout, after the Aggies struck first taking an early lead in the first half, before Arcadia came back to tie the game near the end of the first half off a goal from senior Ashley Griffith (Cape May, NJ/Cape May Regional), an assist from fellow classmate Adrianne Altera (Califon, NJ/Voorhees). The loss drops Arcadia's record to 5-2 on the season.
The first half was a back and forth affair with both teams having equal chances to score and pressure on the opposing goalies. Delaware Valley was the first to capitalize on their opportunities, after a struggle in the midfield for possession of the ball, Rony Jacober took the ball to the top of the circle, with a hard strike to the left side found space placing the ball in the back of the goal. The Aggies held onto their 1-0 advantage until a little over 2 minutes left in the first half, when Arcadia became the aggressor as first-year Ashley Ditchey (Nicholson, PA/Lackawana Trail) came from the right side with a hard hit towards the middle, Altera took the ball and struck it towards the goal, the ball bounced off to the stick of Griffith for a shot in the left corner for the goal, knotting the game at one goal a piece.
Arcadia looked to continue the momentum they gained at the end of the first half, however just two minutes into the second half of play, DVC's Marissa DiMiero took the ball from the right side, drove to get possession and struck the ball at the goal, sneaking the ball between Knight's keeper Sara Baumgardner (Hatboro, PA/Upper Moreland) and the post to give Delaware Valley the 2-1 advantage. The Knights would attempt to apply pressure on the Aggies defense however, they were up for the challenge, stopping nearly every point of attack.
Arcadia returns to the field this Wednesday when King's College travels to Blankley field for a 4 PM game
