Strong second half propels Knights to 2-1 win

Glenside, PA: 9/7/10 - Arcadia dominated time of possession and their end of the field for the majority of today's contest against Cedar Crest College, however still found themselves trailing at the end of the first half 1-0. After a spirited half-time the Knights were able to put two in the back of the goal, while holding the Falcons scoreless for the 2-1 victory. Sophomore Marilyn Beatty (Chalfont, PA/North Penn) had another strong outings for the Knights, posting a goal and an assist. First-year Hannah Christensen (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) also connected for her first collegiate score.

From the opening of the game, Arcadia had the offensive advantage spending the much of the first half on the Cedar Crest defensive end of the field. For the half the Knights out shot the Falcons, 12-2, but it was the Falcons who made the most of their limited opportunities, netting their first and only goal in the 27th minute of play.  Allowing a score right before half would mean Arcadia would have to put it behind them heading into the half down, after such a dominating performance.

Struggling to find their rhythm on offense, Arcadia came out in the second half much like the first, dominating possession time, and keeping Cedar Crest from having any scoring opportunities. However, the Knights in the 20th minute of play would finally be able to connect around the goal and score. Senior Adrianne Altera (Califon, NJ/Voorhees) brought the ball to the center of the circle in front of the Falcon goalie and passed it over to a cutting Beatty who shot from the left side into the back of the cage knotting the contest at a goal a piece.

With the game tied, the Knights would strike again in the 53rd minute as Beatty would make the pass over to Christensen on the left side who put in what proved to be the game-winning score. For the game Arcadia out shot Cedar Crest 30-2, not allowing a single shot in the second half of action.  Sophomore Marissa Perez (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) improved her record in goal to 2-0 after seeing limited action in the game.

The Knightgs return to action on Thursday September 9th to take on Rosemont College on the campus of Arcadia University at 4 PM.
