Knights break in new home with 8-0 win over Falcons

GLENSIDE, PA:  (Sept. 8, 2010)  Arcadia University Womens' Soccer, playing the first collegiate game on the University's New Field evened their early season record at 2-2 with today's non-conference 8-0 victory over Cedar Crest College.  Seven players scored goals for the Knights, including a pair of scores from Brittany Drosdak (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) and the first collegiate goal for Jackie Law (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) who saw playing time at the forward position. 

Senior Jacqueline Eckert (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) made the start in goal for Arcadia and earned her first win of the season.  First years Katelyn Wellnitz (Kennett Square, PA/Kennett Square) and Megan Cronin (Point Pleasant Beach, NJ/Point Pleasant) also contributed minutes in goal.  This afternoon's lopsided affair saw the Knights take a 3-0 lead at the half.  Drosdak opened the game's scoring with a goal from outside the 18 at 16:03.  First year Rachel Dolly (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) crossed to senior Janelle Jablonski (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) who half volleyed over the head of Falcon keeper Stephanie Carrol to put Arcadia up 2-0 at 18:55.  Drosdak then made it 3-0 when she took a pass from Jablonski inside the 18 and shot into the short corner at 23:47. 

Sophomore Rebecka Schafer (Cleveland, OH/Cuyahoga Heights) tallied her first score of the year, tucking a ball under the cross bar from outside the 18 giving the Knights the 4-0 advantage at 54:18.  Jablonski, picked up the second of her team high 2 assists at 72:04 on a cross pass to the center 6 to sophomore Kyrastin Cook (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) for the 5-0 Knights lead.  It was the first goal fo the season for Cook.  Junior Ashley Knueppel (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) made it 6-0 Knights at 73:07 off a cross pass from senior Jessica Leathem (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor Plainsboro-North)  that Knueppel headed past Carrol.  Junior Ali DiOrio (West Windsor, NJ/West windsor Plainsboro-North) deeked Carrol who came out of the goal mouth on a two on none for the Knights and played the ball to Law who shot the ball into the empty net for her first collegiate score at 83:01.  Finally, rounding out the scoring for Arcadia was junior Amy Lupfer (Andover, NJ/Newton) with a short volley under the cross bar off a pass from sophomore Chelsea Cortez (Philadelphia, PA/Franklin Towne Charter) to seal the 8-0 victory for Arcadia. 

The Knights controlled the game from start to finish, out-shooting the Falcons 40-0.

Arcadia returns to play this weekend, traveling to Drew University for the Drew Fall Fest Tournament.  The Knights will play Stockton College on Saturday at 2 pm followed by their 2 pm contest with host Drew on Sunday.
