GLENSIDE, PA (01/08/11) – Nationally ranked #17 Lebanon Valley College Women's Basketball team (13-1 Overall, 3-0 Commonwealth) used an 11-0 run to start the game to roll past the Arcadia University Knights Women's Basketball team (5-7 Overall 0-3 Commonwealth) in Saturday afternoon's matchup by a score of 71-38. The Dutchmen capitalized on the Knights poor shooting in the first half (20.6%) to jump out to 20-6 advantage at the halfway point en route to a 36-16 lead at the half. The Knights also struggled from beyond the arc in the half shooting 0-11 while the Dutchmen were able to put in three of their attempts from long range. Lebanon Valley also dominated the first half in the paint outscoring Arcadia 20-4 as well off the bench but by a much closer margin of 15-10.
The Dutchmen continued their good pace in the second half by not allowing the Knights a chance to recover from their sluggish first half. The Knights were able to cut the lead to 18 at the 17:09 mark of the second, but Lebanon Valley responded soon after, outscoring Arcadia 31-16 the rest of the way. Despite the negative outcome in the half the Knights were able to match their opponent in points in the paint with 10 as well as points off turnovers at 9 and outscored the Dutchmen in second chance points at a 4-2 margin. The Dutchmen though were able to use all of their players as they dominated the Knights in bench points outscoring them by a margin of 33-4.
Despite not having a player in double digits the Knights were paced by several key players in different statistical categories. Corrine Geiger '11 (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) and Krista Hsu '14 (Newark, DE/Delcastle Tech) both lead the team with eight points apiece. Geiger also pulled down five rebounds. Angie Adams '13 (Elkins Park, PA/Abington Friends) put up five points and led the team in rebounding with seven boards. Lebanon Valley was aided by steady team scoring but bench contributions played a key role with Liz Borgia and Lauren Ruhl (6-8 3PT) scoring 13 and 22 points respectively.
The Knights will look to put this loss behind them as they look toward another conference match up hosting the Crusaders of Alvernia University this Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 6PM at the Kuch Center's Alumni Gym.
