Beatty, Goldstien score to lift Field Hockey to 2-0 win over Marywood

GLENSIDE, Pa.:  Junior Marilyn Beatty (Chalfont, PA/North Penn) burried a rebound off a shot by sophomore Ashley Ditchey (Nicholson, PA/Lackawanna Trail) in the 47th minute to break open a scoreless game and first year Molly Goldstein (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson Twp.) added another just two minutes later to help Arcadia University Field Hockey to a 2-0 shutout victory over visiting Marywood University on Arcadia's Family Weekend.

The Knights improve to 4-11 overall while the Pacers drop to 3-9.

Today marked the first meeting between the two teams since 2006, when the squads met regularly as conference rivals in the Pennsylanvia Athletic Conference (PAC).  Marywood won the last outing 3-2 in overtime in the Knight's final season competing in the PAC.

In today's non-conference match-up, the two teams battled in the midfield during much of the opening half, playing to a scoreless draw by the break, with shots 2-1 in Arcadia's favor.

The Knights came out hungry in second stanza, replicating their performance just a week ago on Blankley Field when they hosted No. 7 Messiah.  Their transition game was working and their forwards getting scoring chances, as evidenced by the lopsided 11-0 advantage in shots in the second half.

Finally, at 47:30, Ditchey's original shot caromed off Marywood keeper Jamie Bowman's pads and out to the stick of Beatty for the 1-0 Arcadia lead.  The goal for Beatty was her team leading 7th of the year. Ditchey immediately started the next scoring sequence, putting the ball into the circle, when Goldstein came up with it at the far post for her 6th goal for the season at 49:57. Over the final twenty minutes, Arcadia held it together defensively, preventing the Pacers from generating any offense and recorded the team's first shut-out victory of the year.

Junior keeper Sarah Baumgardner (Hatboro, PA/Upper Moreland) finished with 1 save for Arcadia in her first shutout victory of the season.  Bowman finished with 3 stops for the Pacers.

The Knights return to action this Wednesday, Oct. 19 when they play at Widener University for their next Commonwealth Conference game.  Game time is set for 4 p.m.
