Arcadia, Lycoming settle for 1-1 draw in Commonwealth battle

GLENSIDE, Pa.:  First year Tim O'Leary (Gladstone, NJ/Gill St. Bernards) scored in the 43rd minute, erasing Lycoming College's 1-0 lead but after two overtime periods, the two teams settled for a 1-1 draw in today's Commonwealth Conference men's soccer battle at Arcadia University on Family Weekend.

Lycoming (7-6-2, 1-2-1 CC) lit the lamp in the 26th minute with their leading scorer Charlie Vess lifting his shot over Arcadia sophomore keeper Ryan Lantzy (Pheonxivlle, PA/Pheonixville) for a 1-0 Warrior's lead.  As it appeared the Warriors would take their one-goal advantage into the break, the Knights kept knocking on the door.  Arcadia junior Zach Todd (Cape May Courthouse, NJ/Middle Twp.) send a cross from the right into O'Leary who was lingering in front of the left post and the first year went opposite with his shot, past Connor Keenan, knotting the game at 1-1 after the first 45 minutes.  The goal for O'Leary was his first as a collegiate player and could prove to be a difference maker for Arcadia in the league standings as the team looks to punch their ticket to the conference playoffs in early November.

Wind proved to be a factor in this contest, carrying many shots by both team either wide or high.  Neither team could get a break in the second half and although the Knights out-shot Lycoming 9-6 in the second frame, the game was headed for overtime.  Todd just missed an late game opportunity in the final 1:30 of the second half as Keenan stormed out to prevent a shot, and indeed the two squads settled in for extra minutes.

The Knights out-shot Lycoming 2-0 and 4-1 respectively over the pair of ten-minute overtime stanzas but the scoreboard read 1-1 as the final.

Lantzy finished with 1 save for the Knights and Keenan with 9 for the Warriors.

Arcadia is now 7-6-1 overall and 2-1-1 within the Commonwealth.  The team travels to league rival Lebanon Valley College this Wednesday, Oct. 19 for a 4 p.m. kick-off.
