Field Hockey drops 3-0 decision at Widener

CHESTER, Pa.:  Arcadia University Field Hockey dropped a 3-0 decision to host Widener University this afternoon.  After an evenly played and scoreless game at the half, the Pride erupted for three second half goals while limiting Arcadia in their offensive zone.

The first half of this Commonwealth Conference face-off ended in a 0-0 draw. Arcadia (4-12, 0-5 CC) had a chance to get one-up on Widener when a penalty stroke was awarded to sophomore Ashley Ditchey (Nicholson, PA/Lackawana Trail), but Widener freshman goalkeeper Maggie Karmeris
denied the Knights the chance.

At the 39-minute marker Widener's Kate Fetterman
fed the ball to Olivia Burgese who then scored the first goal of the game and her first of the season. Emily Norcross helped to give the Pride (7-6, 2-2 CC) some breathing room in the 53rd minute when she got the ball past Arcadia's goalkeeper Sarah Baumgardner (Hatboro, PA/Upper Moreland). To help close the game out, senior Colleen Cormier converted off a pass from Kate Furguson
with just five minutes left in the game.

Karmeris notched three saves for the Pride. Baumgardner finished with 2 stops for Arcadia. Widener outshot Arcadia 7-2 and gained four more penalty corners.

This Friday, Oct. 21 the Knights will honor their graduating seniors in front of the home crowd, hosting Swarthmore College in non-conference action at 4 p.m.
