Field Hockey caps 2011 with 7-0 road win

BALTIMORE, Md.:  Arcadia University Field Hockey closed the 2011 season with a convincing 7-0 victory over Notre Dame of Maryland University on the road.  An 6 point day for junior Lauren Altera (Califon, NJ/Califon) led a group of six different players scoring for the Knights who conclude the season 6-13 overall.

With today's win, the Knights erase a 0-7 start to the year by going .500 since their first home game and season's first win on Sept. 22 against Keystone.

Junior Marilyn Beatty (Chalfont, PA/North Penn) scored twice scoring in under a two-minute span giving her Knights the early advantage.   Altera assisted on Beatty's first and the Knight's third score of the afternoon by first year Molly Goldstein (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson Twp.).  Arcadia's 3-0 lead stood until the 30th minute, when senior Melissa McNamee (Philadelphia, PA/Little Flower)scored in her final collegiate game to make it 4-0 Knights off an assist from sophomore Abby Brockelbank (Raymond, ME/Windham).

In a giving mood, Altera dished out two more assists, the first to first year Katie Dull (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) who made it 5-0 Knights at 41:01, the second to first year Morgan Paese (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt) and the 6-0 Arcadia lead with just under 20 minutes remaining.  Altera was paid back at 55:26 with a pass from senior Staci Faye (Suffern, NY/Suffern) that she put in the back of the cage to cap the Knight's 7-0 victory.

Arcadia out-shot the Gators 22-4.  Notre Dame drops to 2-9 with today's loss.

Junior Sarah Baumgardner (Hatboro, PA/Upper Moreland) got the start and first year Jess Mahoney (N. Wildwood, NJ/Cape May Tech) finished the game totaling 1 save.

While today was the final collegiate game for four-year players McNamee and Faye, all of Arcadia's top offensive threats are slated to return for 2012.  Beatty finished as the 2011 point leader with 26 (10 goals, 6 assists) while first year's Molly Goldstein (18 pts/8 goals, 2 assists) finished second in scoring.   Morgan Paese (13 pts/6 goals, 1 assist) and Altera finished with 13 pts. apeice and sophomore Ashley Ditchey (Nicholson, PA/Lackawanna Trail) with 7 pts.
