Seniors honored, Volleyball falls in league finale

GLENSIDE, Pa.:  Three graduating players listened to reminiscent teammates in honor of tonight's senior night, before Arcadia Volleyball lost in a hard fought battle with visiting Elizabethtown, 3-0 to close Commonwealth Conference play.

Seniors Hailey Barger (Sitka, AK/Sitka) and Erin Ficca (Exton, PA/Bishop Shanahan) and junior Jessyca Stoler (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) will each receive their undergraduate degrees from Arcadia this May.

Arcadia (6-14, 0-7 CC) was out-hit by the visiting Blue Jays overall .405 to .109, and although E'town won in three, it wasn't without enduring a valiant fight from the Knights.

With a one game deficit, Arcadia rallied after the early going in set two for a 13-9 lead off the service from sophomore Melissa D'Arcangelo (Brookefield, CT/Brookefield). D'Arcangleo finished with 3 aces, 4 kills and 5 digs.  Yet the Blue Jays turned it back on, going on to outscore the Knights 16-7 to win the set 25-20.

The Knights were led by Barger's 7 kills.  Sophomore Carlee Rossiter (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) dished out 17 assists and added a team high 7 digs, while Stoler finished with 2 assists and 4 digs in tonight's contest. Widener's Holly Bubb led all attackers with 14 kills.

Tonight's set scores were: 25-14, 25-20, 25-15.

Arcadia closes out the 2011 season tomorrow evening at non-conference school Bryn Athyn College.  The team's first ever meeting with Bryn Athyn will begin at 7 p.m.
