Rowan holds off Knights 2-0

Glenside, Pa.:  Arcadia University Women's Soccer saw their five-game win streak come to an end this afternoon as visiting Rowan University scored two first half goals that went unanswered by the Knights in today's non-conference game.

The loss is the first for Arcadia since a 2-0 setback to nationally ranked John Hopkins back on Sept. 11.  Arcadia's record now stands at 8-2-1 overall (1-0 C'wealth) while the Profs improve to 6-3 overall (4-0, NJAC).

The two teams battled over the the course of regulation using both speed and an aggressive style of play.  Rowan finally broke through for the 1-0 lead in the 18th minute with a goal from Leah Carney, assisted by Kayla Leahey.  Just four minutes later, Erika Suhl sent a pass into the box that Veronica Rhea slid past Arcadia keeper Jackie Law (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) giving Rowan a 2-0 advantage.  The score remained the same by halftime and would also stand as the final.

Rowan held a small advantage in shots 15-12 while Arcadia earned the edge in corner opportunities, 6-4.  Law finished with 8 saves for the Knights.  Rowan's Lyndsie Bernardini tallied 5 saves to earn the shutout.

Arcadia takes the remainder of the week to prepare for their return to their league schedule, a trip to Grantham, Pa. for  Saturday's matchup at rival Messiah College.  Kick off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
