Dutchmen hang 5-1 loss on Knights

GLENSIDE, Pa.:  Arcadia University Field Hockey hosted the Flying Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley College for this afternoon's Commonwealth Conference matchup and lost the contest 5-1.  Junior Marilyn Beatty (Chalfont, PA/North Penn) registered the Knights lone goal, scoring in the 52nd minute, her team leading 6th goal of the season.

LVC's Jocelyn Novak, the reigning Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week, scored twice in the first half, giving the Dutchmen an early 2-0 advantage.  Last week, Novak hit for her 112th collegiate goal, becoming the all-time goal scorer in the history of the Commonwealth Conference.  Today, she added a third to complete the hat trick in the 50th minute to put her team up 4-0.  Beatty answered on a break away, lifting the ball over LVC keeper Christine Poletti at 52:59, earasing Poletti's hopes at a shutout.  Poletti finished the game with 2 saves.  LVC made it a 5-1 final when they capitalized on a corner with no time remaining on the clock.

Junior keeper Sarah Baumgardner (Hatboro, PA/Upper Moreland) made 7 stops in the cage for Arcadia who drops to 2-10 overall and 0-3 in the league.  LVC improves to 7-4 overall and 1-1 in league play.

First year Lindsey Iveson (Barnegat, NJ/Barengat) and sophomore Pam Schweitzer (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood) each registered a defensive save for Arcadia. Schweitzer leads the squad with 4 defensive stops this season.

The Knights travel to DeSales University this Thursday, Oct. 6 before moving on to host Messiah College in league play, this Saturday, Oct. 8 at 1 p.m. on Blankley Field.
