Service and defense carry Albright past Knights 3-1

GLENSIDE, Pa.:  After each team fought for a win in the open two sets, Albright College responded with consecutive wins in games three and four to hand Arcadia University a tough 3-1 loss in tonight's Commonwealth Conference volleyball match.

Game scores were: 21-25, 25-13, 11-25, 14-25.

Albright (6-12, 2-2 CC) jumped out to an early lead and took game one 25-21 but the Knights ended the set on a rally that continued over into game two.  Up 16-10, Arcadia built upon a 10 pt. lead sealed by a pair of authoritative kills at the net by senior Hailey Barger (Sitka, AK/Sitka) giving the Knights the 25-13 win, knotting the score at 1-1.  Barger finished with 13 kills for Arcadia.

Game three saw the Lions up 9-6 but again Arcadia responded to force two ties at points 10 and 11.  But a few Arcadia errors proved costly, allowing Albright a 14-11 lead going on to win 25-11.  Albright followed with a 25-14 win in game four to take the league match 3-1.

Junior Delaney Dobson (Horsham, PA/Archbishop Wood) led the Knights with 14 kills and sophomore Veronika Bailey (Plato, MO/Plato) with 18 digs.  Junior Jessyca Stoler (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) served up 32 assists.  A bright spot in the Knights lineup saw the return of sophomore Carlee Rossiter (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck), providing the already animated Knight fans something extra to applaud.

The Lions combined for 11 service aces and 12 team blocks with three players hitting above .400.

Arcadia (3-9, 0-4 CC) heads to Rosemont College this Thursday, Oct. 6 for a 7 p.m. non-league match.  The Knights return home to make up a non-conference match with Immaculata on Monday, Oct. 10.
