First Years lead Knights past DeSales 3-1

CENTER VALLEY, Pa.:  Arcadia University Field Hockey got scoring from a trio of first years to defeat DeSales University 3-1 in this afternoon's non-conference matchup.  Morgan Paese (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDeviit), Lindsey Iveson (Barnegat, NJ/Barnegat) and Molly Goldstein (Oakridge, NJ/Jefferson Twp.) each scored goals leading to Arcadia's third win of the season.

The Knights (3-10, 0-3 CC) went up 1-0 at 28:54 on the first of their two corner scores of the game.  Junior Lauren Altera (Califon, NJ/Voorhees) started the corner, feeding junior Marilyn Beatty (Chalfont, PA/North Penn) at the top of the circle blasting her shot into Paese who got her stick on it and tipped it in towards Bulldogs keeper Victoria DelToro.  The tip deflected off the post and in for the only score of the opening half.

Iveson gave Arcadia a 2-0 lead at 52:03 on an assist from Altera but the Bulldogs answered right back at 53:39 with a score from Amanda Trickey, assisted by Alyssa Knappenberger.  Seven minutes went by before Arcadia regained their two-goal advantage, scoring on another corner attempt.  Altera threaded a pass to Goldstein that the first year tipped past DelToro, off the post and in at 60:32, putting the Knights ahead 3-1.

Senior Staci Faye (Suffern, NY/Suffern) provided a huge spark off the bench for the Knights, producing 54 solid minutes, leading the midfield transition game for the Knight's attack.

DelToro finished with 1 save in the loss for DeSales (4-6, 1-0 FC).  Junior keeper Sarah Baumgardner (Hatboro, PA/Upper Moreland) made 1 save for the Knights.

Arcadia out-shot DeSales 10-4, also leading in corner attempts 14-8.

The Knights play host to No. 7 Messiah College this Saturday at Blankley Field.  The Commonwealth Conference matchup is set for 1 p.m.
