Women's Basketball breaks into national statistical rankings

Jenna Crothers '14, Christie Kershaw '14 & Christine Taylor '12 rank among NCAA Division III leaders
GLENSIDE, Pa.:   Arcadia University Women's Basketball has placed three student-athletes among the nation's top Division III statistical leaders with Tuesday's release of the first week NCAA national statistics.

Sophomore guard Jenna Crothers (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) is currently ranked 40th in scoring average, scoring 18.4 points per game through the first five contests. She is the lone Commonwealth Conference player to rank among the nation's top 50 scorer's in the first week of national statistics.  Through the Knights first six contests, she is averaging 37.2 minutes played per game, up nealy 36 minutes played from her rookie season in 2010-11.  As a first year, Crothers averaged just 1.3 points per game, a 16 point up-swing differential.

Sophomore forward Christie Kershaw (Cheltenham, PA/Cheltenham) currently ranks 38th in the nation in rebounding, averaging 10.8 rebounds per contest through the first five outings.  Kershaw is the lone Commonwealth Conference representative among the nation's top 50 rebounders.  She has posted double-digit rebounds in each of the first five games, ringing in with 15 in the season opener against Stevenson.

Senior guard Christine Taylor (Navron, PA/Garden Spot) registered her first career triple-double in an 88-68 win over Penn State-Abington on Dec. 6.  Taylor poured in 22 points, grabbed 21 rebounds and dished out 10 assists in the Knights lone win to date.  Currently averaging a double-double with 13.6 points per game and 10.3 rebounds per contest, Taylor is just one of seven players in the nation to register a triple-double this season and the only player in the Commonwealth Conference to do so this season.

Arcadia is dealing with a 1-6 overall record through the first seven contests and adjusting to a starting line-up that has been hampered by injuries.  While the line-up slowly begins to rejuvinate, the team is hoping to add another victory to it's overall record before the heart of Commonwealth Conference play begins in mid-January.

The team plays the final home game of 2011 against Rosemont College (4-4 overall) this Friday at 6 p.m. at the Kuch Center.  The Ravens handed the Knights a 80-59 loss in the third game of the season at the Rutgers-Camden Tip-Off Tournament back on Nov. 19.
