Crusaders control Knights in Commonwealth road game

READING, PA:  (Feb. 3, 2011) - Arcadia University shot 6 for 27 over the opening twenty minutes and went into the half trailing host Alvernia University by 25 (41-16) and could not recover as the Crusaders came out on top 69-36 over Arcadia in Thursday evening's Commonwealth Conference Women's Basketball game.  These two teams met back on Jan. 11 in a much closer matchup as the Knights remained in contention with the Crusaders the entire way before settling for a 7 point loss.  However, this evening, the Crusaders used their home court to their advantage, shooting an impressive 43% from the floor while going 5 for 9 from the arc.

Alvernia junior guard Julie Hahn hit her first four shots of the game, all from behind the arc, scoring her first two points of the night from the free throw line to put the Crusaders up 6-0 early. Hahn then hit four times from the arc over the next 16 minutes as the hosts opened up a 41-12 lead.  Hahn finished with 16 points in just 22 minutes of action. Alvernia also got 13 points, 13 rebounds, and a team-high five assists from junior forward Allie Toczylowski and Angie Altemose pitched in with 10 boards/

The Crusaders opened up a 13-2 lead early and were never threatened.  Arcadia finished the night shooting 28 percent from the floor.  Christine Taylor '12 led the way for the Knights with 13 points.  Christie Kershaw '14 finished as the game's leading rebounder with 16 while adding 8 points. Kershaw also hit the Knight's only two free throw attempts of the contest.  Kelly Donahue '11 pitched in with 9 points and Krista Hsu '14 with 4 steals and 3 assists, both team highs.

Alvernia remains in fourth place in the league standings, improving to 12-8 overall and 5-4 in the Commonwealth.  Arcadia drops to 7-13 and 1-8 in the league and returns to play this Saturday at Lycoming College where they look to sweep the league series.  Arcadia defeated the Warriors back on Jan. 16 by a 74-62 margin for their first ever win in the Commonwealth Conference.
