CHESTER, Pa., Friday, April 29, 2011-- Widener University took the opener of the three game conference series against Arcadia University this afternoon, 3-0.

Widener scored three runs in the opening two innings of play to stake a three run advantage, and utilized great defense and solid pitching for the shut-out victory. A home run by the Pride in the opener inning turned out to be the game winner.

Arcadia was only able to manage two hits against the Widener pitching staff, never posing a threat in the nine-inning affair and the Pride only allowed one runner on base after the fifth inning in route the victory.

First-year Aaron Benusis was on record for the loss, pitching the complete game, eight innings, allowing three runs on eight hits, while striking out nine and walking four.

Arcadia and Widener will finish the series tomorrow in a double-header at the Knights home Erny Field. The Knights will honor senior Jason Heryla before the first game, first-pitch is slated for noon.
