Knights win fourth straight on Volk-Perez game winner

DOYLESTOWN, Pa.:  A goal by sophomore Sara Volk-Perez (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) in the 63rd minute broke a scoreless game and turned out to be the game winner as Arcadia University Women's Soccer secured their fourth straight victory today, a 1-0 final over host Delaware Valley College.

First year Alex Stoner (Elkton, MD/Elkton) earned the assist on the game winner while junior keeper Jackie Law (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains) turned in another shutout performance, making 3 stops on the Aggies.  Arcadia (7-1-1) out-shot Delaware Valley (3-3-2) 12-6.

Following a tighly played scoreless first half, Arcadia finally reaped the benefits of their hard work in the 63rd minute on a beautiful play through the midfield.  Stoner, playing center back drilled a line drive that Volk-Perez played off her chest, to her feet where she split two Aggie defenders and sailed her shot, beating  keeper Julie Burnell to the right corner.  Arcadia's 1-0 lead stood through the remaining 27 minutes.  Burnell finished with 7 saves for Delaware Valley.

First year Kaitlyn Barry (Chester, PA/Immaculata) registered a team leading 3 shots for Arcadia while the shutout for Law was her fifth of the season.  The goal for Volk-Perez was her team leading 4th score of the year.

The Knights open Commonwealth Conference play this Saturday at home, hosting the Lions of Albright College.  The teams take to the pitch for a 12 Noon kick-off.
