Alvernia downs Volleyball 3-0

READING, Pa.:  Alvernia University used a steady offense to stave off the feisty Arcadia University Volleyball team, taking tonight's Commonwealth Conference match 3-0.  Senior Hailey Barger (Sitka, AK/Sitka) led the Knights attack with 10 kills and 4 block assists.

Game scores were 25-21, 25-16 and 25-22.  Tonight's win for the Crusaders was their first in league play as they improve to 6-6 (1-2 CC) while the Knights drop to 2-7 (0-3 CC).

The Knights played a strong first set, losing by just four points (25-21) and dug deep in an effort to force a fourth set, but instead, settled for a 3 pt. loss in the third set.

On the defensive side of the ball, sophomores Krista Hsu (Newark, DE/Delcastle Tch) and Melissa D'Arcangelo (Brookefield, CT/Brookefield) added 13 digs apeice.  Junior Jessyca Stoler (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) added 12 digs upon 11 assists, with 2 block assists.  First year Stephanie Stone (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) contributed 10 digs, 6 assists and 2 service aces while sophomore libero Veronika Bailey (Plato, MO/Plato) added 10 digs.

Up next for Arcadia is a trip to King's College this Saturday, Oct. 1 where they compete at the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Crossover (Freedom-Commonwealth) Tournament.  The Knights are set to face the host Lady Monarchs at 10 a.m. followed by Manhattanville College at 12 Noon.
