Women's Soccer defeats Wilkes 4-0 in championship game

Sara Volk-Perez scores twice in championship game
HAVERFORD, Pa:  After needing penalty kicks on Saturday to advance to today's championship game, Arcadia University Women's Soccer scored four unanswered goals, allowing just 9 shots to Wilkes University as the Knights defeated the Colonels 4-0 to win the Haverford College Kickoff Classic championship. Sophomore Sara Volk-Perez scored twice for the Knights who improve to 2-0-1.

11 of Arcadia's 20 shots found their way to the Wilkes net, while the Knights also generated more corner opportunities at 6-1, scoring on one of those when senior Amy Lupfer (Andover, NJ/Newton) made it 1-0 Arcadia in the 9th minute of play.

Arcadia scored twice more in the first half, both unassisted goals from Volk-Perez at 27:19 and sophomore Rachel Dolly (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) at 41:33.

Leading 3-0 into the final minute of regulation, Volk-Perez sealed the victory scoring at 89:38.

Arcadia's defense staved off much pressure from the Knight's goalkeeping staff. Getting the start was junior Jackie Law (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains Fanwood), playing 39 minutes with 1 stop.  First year Veronica Wilig (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) also played 39 minutes in the net for Arcadia, making 3 stops with junior Katelyn Wellnitz (Kennett Square, PA/Kennett Square) playing the final 11 minutes uncontested in net.

Arcadia opens their home season this Wednesday at 4 PM hosting DeSales University.
