Knights Second Half Surge Turned Aside by Albright

Box Score
READING, Pa.:  With 3:16 remaining and a 12 point lead for host Albright College, Jason Thompson lit the nets for two three-point buckets in a minute and a half, part of a 14-8 run for the Knights in the final three minutes of play, but Arcadia University ran out time and lost 66-70 to the Lions in tonight's Commonwealth Conference game.

The Knights struggled to connect on shots in the first half, shooting just 25%, including a lifeless 0-7 from three-point range and settled for a 30-18 disadvantage at the break. But the Knights turned things around in the second, shooting the lights out at the charity stripe,  sinking 15 of their 18 second half chances and shaved off a 21-point deficit, down 52-31 with 12:27 to play and made a game of it.

Three players paced the Knights (9-15, 2-11 CC) in their final road game of the 2011-12 season, led by 18 from first year Aaron Lee-Webb, 16 from junior Khalief Trawick and 10 from senior Colin McCarthy.  Thompson finished with 8 points.

Derek Hall led Albright (16-8, 7-6 CC) scoring a game-high 24 points.

The Knights' slow start resulted in a 14-4 advantage for the Lions in the opening minutes. Thanks to solid defensive play, Arcadia was able to hold the Lions to 30 first half points, despite a first half double-double performance from Albright point gaurd Dave Singleton, who grabbed 11 rebounds and scored 10 points.

Albright scored the first 8 points of the second half on their way to a 22-13 run in the first 7 minutes of the half.  After a Derek Hall bucket for Albright the scoreboard read 52-31.  Some fans trickled out of the Bollman Center, figuring the blow out was to continue. But all of a sudden the Knights flipped a switch and turned things around, picking up the defense, attacking the basket and getting to and producing at the foul line.

On the opposite side, Albright saw their free-throw production drop, shooting 8 for 20 in the second half, finishing 12 for 26 on the game.

Arcadia's surge was led by Colin McCarthy, Aaron Webb, and Khalief Trawick.  Their relentless effort, along with Thompson's made three point baskets, allowed Arcadia to climb back to within four of Albright's 70-66 lead with 14 seconds on the clock.  However, the Knights were unable to convert a quick bucket to give them a chance for the win.
