Baseball Opens 2012 Season with Sunday Doubleheader at Centenary

GLENSIDE, Pa.:  The 2012 Arcadia University Baseball season is set to open this Sunday, Feb. 26 in a non-conference doubleheader at Centenary College with a new head coach and 13 new players added to the roster from a season ago.

Alumus Ken Spangenberg '08 will make his collegiate head coaching debut alongside incoming assistant coaches Scott Winters and Mark Reily with nine incoming first year students among the 13 new players set to make their Scarlet & Grey debut.  Many of the team's 30-man roster wil be relied upon for dual roles this season.

The team is looking to make continued strides in the ever competative Middle Atlantic-Commonwealth Conference, a league that features the favored Alvernia University Crusaders, who finished the 2011 seaosn one-game shy of the Division III World Series.  The Crusaders were unanimously picked to win the Commonwealth Championship by the league's coaches in the annual pre-season poll

Arcadia will play the role of the underdog, receiving just six points in the annual poll after a disappointing 1-17 finish to their Commonwealth schedule a season ago.   Commonwealth play opens on March 16 with the Knights making the trip to the top-seeded Crusaders for the series opener with the series doubleheader to be played at Erny Field the following afternoon.

Before that however, Arcadia's schedule boasts three home, non-league doubleheaders and a trip to The Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C. for a series of five non-league games over spring break.

First pitch for Sunday's doubleheader against the Cyclones of Centenary College will be at 12 Noon at T.D. Bank Park in Bridgwater, N.J.
