Arcadia Steals Extra-Innings Game Against Aggies, Runs Win Streak to Four

Box Score
DOYLESTOWN, PA:  Arcadia University Baseball needed extra innings this afternoon at host Delaware Valley College but using two consecutive wild pitches dealt by the Aggies, the Knights got a two-out go-ahead run in the top of the 11th before turning a 4-6-3 double play on their hosts to win 6-5 and extend their win streak to four games.

The Knights jumped out to a 3-0 advantage on 2 hits and a DelVal error in the first. A sac fly from Jerry Smith '13 brought in Nick Petroski '13 who singled to center to lead off the inning.   After a ground out plated Arcadia's second score of the frame, Pat Kwiatkowski '15 drove in the third when he dropped a single into right.  The Aggies countered with a one-run bottom of one before tying the game at 3-all with a two-run bottom of two.

Smith, batting clean up, helped himself to his second hit of the day, a run-scoring double to the gap in center for the go-ahead score from Justin Simpson '14 in the top of the third.

The score remained 4-3 Knights until the hosts put up two in the bottom of the fourth, regaining the 5-4 lead.  But the resilient Arcadia team had an answer in the top of the fifth as David Jacobs '14 drew a bases loaded walk to tie the game up at 5 aside.

The score would remain unchanged all the way until the 11th inning.  With two outs down, Mark Bowman '12 took first on ball four and Anthony Snover '15 ripped a single through the left side.  The two basemen advanced on a wild pitch to put runners on second and third and things continued to downhill for the Aggies with another wild pitch that scored Bowman to give Arcadia a 6-5 lead.

Needing one run to keep the game going or two to end it, the Aggies mustered up just one hit in the bottom of the 11th before a Jacobs to Bowman to Jay Zehring '14 4-6-3 double play capped another thrilling victory for the Knights as they improve to 11-13 on the season.

The win would be credited to Snover, who entered in the bottom of the 10th.  The first year got the job done with no hits, 3 walks and a strikeout through 5 batters faced to earn his first collegiate victory.  Simpson earned his first save by tossing the 11th inning.

Smith finished 2-4 with 2 RBI to lead Arcadia who moves on to face Widener University at home, this Thursday, April 5 in a critial Commonwealth Conference series opening game.  First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
