Absolute Lynnsanity in Field Hockey’s 2-1 Win

Box Score

GLENSIDE, Pa. (September 13, 2012) – After suffering a tough 2-1 loss to undefeated Swarthmore College over the weekend, the Arcadia University field hockey team bounced back in impressive fashion with a 2-1 non-conference win over Moravian College on Thursday. As the sun scorched down on Easton Field, senior forward Lynn Beatty continued her scorching start to the season with a pair of goals as the Knights improved to 3-1 on the year.

Arcadia was on the attack from the get-go – accounting for 13 shots and eight penalty corners in the first half alone. Greyhounds goalkeeper Andrea Eck and defenseman Stephanie Pezzello did their best to keep AU off the board. Pezzello had two amazing defensive saves in the half before Beatty found the back of the cage in the 32nd minute to give the Knights a 1-0 lead headed into halftime.

Moravian would not go away though as sophomore Catherine Duffin scored off a corner to tie the game at 46:30. Despite the goal from Duffin, the second stanza was much like the first as the Knights were the aggressor once again. In the second stanza, Arcadia recorded seven shots and six corners to Moravian's one shot and four corners.

Knotted in a 1-1 stalemate with 18 minutes left in regulation, AU was awarded a penalty corner. Sophomore Katrina Dull took the corner and sent a great ball to senior Lauren Altera atop the arc. Altera wasted no time finding Beatty, who scooped the ball over Eck and into the net.

The goal was Beatty's fifth of the season. Goalkeeper Sarah Baumgardner was outstanding in her start of the season as she held the Greyhounds scoreless the rest of the way to record the victory.

Today's contest was the first of what will be a six-game home-stand for the Knights. Arcadia will be back in action on Tuesday against Immaculata University at 4 p.m.
