GLENSIDE, PA (September 20, 2012) – One year removed from starting the season 0-7, the Arcadia University field hockey team continued its tremendous turnaround as the Knights blanked Cedar Crest College 8-0 to improve to 5-1 on the season. AU has now won three games in a row to improve to 5-1 overall. Combined with Wednesday night's 6-0 victory over Immaculata University, Arcadia has outscored its last two opponents by a combined score of 14-0 in the span of 24 hours.
The Knights controlled the game from the opening whistle. Freshman Jennie Kamel got things going when she scored 15 minutes into the contest. Moments later, Kamel set up sophomore Molly Goldstein to extend the lead to 2-0. The Knights carried that lead into the second half.
Arcadia opened up the flood gates in the second stanza – scoring six times in the period. Senior Lynn Beatty and junior Pam Schweitzer scored twice while junior Hannah Christensen and Kamel added a goal apiece. Kamel finished with two assists while freshman Rachel Longenecker and Beatty had one assist apiece.
Once again, senior goalie Sarah Baumgardner was credited with the win. For the second night in a row, Baumgardner and freshmen Mia De Plato, Megan Conley, and Kathleen Finnegan combined for the shutout. Cedar Crest was able to muster up only one shot the entire game as Arcadia's defense led by Ashley Ditchey proved dominant again.
The Knights are back in action on Saturday when they host Albright College at 1 p.m. to open up Commonwealth Conference play. The Lions are off to a roaring start as they have won six games in a row and carry a 6-1 mark into Saturday's conference opener for both teams.
