Box Score GLENSIDE, Pa. – Junior back
Joseph Bertucci (Giblosboro, N.J.) scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season 4:14 into the second overtime period to give the Arcadia University men's soccer team a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over visiting Stevenson University Saturday afternoon in a MAC Commonwealth match at Easton Field.
The Knights improved to 6-6-1 overall and 2-1-0 in conference play with their second straight win, while the Mustangs fell to 7-6-1 overall and 2-1-0 in conference play.
Arcadia never led in the game prior to Bertucci's goal. Christopher Panian () gave Stevenson a 1-0 lead with 5:35 left in the first half when he fired home a shot inside the left post from outside the right side of the box off a feed out of the right corner from senior forward Steve Hamilton (Manchester, Md.). That lead didn't last long as junior forward John Panaca's (Pitman, N.J.) diving header off a cross from the right sideline from sophomore back Dalton Rutter (Gap, Pa.) knotted the score at 1-1 with just 38 seconds left in the first frame.
The Mustangs regained a one-goal advantage 4:24 into the second half on junior midfielder Yianni Sarioglou's (Perry Hill, Md.) header. Freshman midfielder Adnan Alic (Baltimore, Md.) served the ball into the box from 30 yards out, and Panian headed the ball from the right side of the goal to Sarioglou who was on the left for the goal. The Knights once again answered quickly as Rutter knocked in a lead pass from junior midfielder
Alex Wells (Hockessia, Del.) for his third goal of the year.
Neither team was able to convert in the rest of rest of regulation or the first overtime period. That set the stage for Bertucci who broke through the Stevenson defense and placed a shot into the right side of the goal from the left of the box to give Arcadia the win. It was the only shot taken by the Knights in either of the extra frames.
Senior keeper
Ryan Lantzy (Phoenixville, Pa.) had another strong performance in goal for Arcadia, recording 10 saves as he improved his record to 6-5-1 for the season. Sophomore keeper Ryan Callinan (Edison, N.J.) made six saves for Stevenson as his record fell to 2-2-0.
The Mustangs outshot the Knights 30-15 in the match and 10-1 in the overtime periods. Stevenson also had a 5-3 advantage in corker kicks.
Arcadia will return to action Wednesday when it hosts a 7 p.m. MAC Commonwealth match against Elizabethtown College at Easton Field.
