Women’s Swimming Falls at Hood in Season-Opener

FREDERICK, Md. – The Arcadia University women's swimming team dropped a 167-92 dual match at Hood College Saturday afternoon to start the 2013-14 season. The Blazers improved to 2-1 with the win.
 
Senior Tara Nuzzo (Mahwah, N.J.) factored in all three of Arcadia's individual event wins, winning the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.50 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 56.49 seconds and then leading off the winning 200 freestyle relay that included junior Whitney Boeckel (York, Pa.), sophomore Rebecca Burkhart (Bethel Park, Pa.) and freshman Anna Sweeney (Highland Lakes, N.J.) and posted a time of 1:47.47.
 
The 200 medley relay team of sophomore Charity Brain (Kendall Park, N.J.), junior Jenna Neil (Harrisburg, Pa.), freshman Shannon Davies (Broomall, Pa.) and Nuzzo finished second with a time of 2:00.21.
 
Boeckel was the runner up in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 11:42.13 and the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:18.24, while Sweeney finished third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:12.80. Brain and Boeckel took second and third in the 100 backstroke with respective times of 1:05.77 and 1:06.52.
 
Davies took second place in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:38.99 and placed third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:07.84. Neil took third in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:57.70.
 
The Knights will next compete in a dual meet at Lebanon Valley College October 26 at 1 p.m.
