Box Score GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 setback and Messiah College Tuesday night in a MAC Commonwealth contest, dropping its record to 11-2-5 overall and 4-1-3 in conference play.
The Falcons, who are ranked ninth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and 10th in the D3Soccer.com polls, improved to 15-2-1 overall and 8-0-0 in conference play. Messiah also locked up the top seed in next week's MAC Commonwealth Championship Tournament.
The Knights, who are receiving votes in this week's D3Soccer.com poll, can still finish as high as second in the conference with a win at Lebanon Valley and an Elizabethtown loss to Widener Saturday. An Arcadia loss Saturday, combined with wins by Stevenson (vs. Alvernia) and Widener, would result in Arcadia missing the tournament all together.
The lone goal of the match, which saw the Falcons outshoot the Knights 19-1, was scored by sophomore forward Nikki Elsaesser (Old Bridge, N.J.) with 9:20 left in the contest as she buried a pass from senior forward Corinne Wulf (Columbus, Ohio) for her 17th goal of the year.
Arcadia may have had just one shot in the match, but it was a quality one as sophomore
Melia Ochsner (Phoenix, Ariz.) rang a shot off the cross bar off a corner kick in the 19th-minute.
Sophomore keeper Audra Larson's (Montoursville, Pa.) record improved to 15-2-0 with the win for Messiah. Senior keeper
Jackie Law (Scotch Plains, N.J.) has seven saves in taking the loss for the Knights, dropping her record to 9-2-5.
