Late Run Gives Drew 55-51 Win over Women’s Basketball Team

Box Score GLENSIDE, Pa. – Visiting Drew University closed the game on a 14-4 run that give it a 55-51 non-conference win over the Arcadia University women's basketball team Wednesday evening at Alumni Gymnasium. The Rangers improved to 6-2 with the win, while the Knights fell to 6-3 with the loss.

Arcadia held a 47-41 lead after junior forward Victoria Roukas (Palisades, Park, N.J.) dropped in a layup as she was fouled and converted the free throw that followed with 2:52 remaining in the game, but senior forward Logan Cavanaugh (Rutland, Vt.) answered by knocking down a jumper just five seconds later to start the game-winning run for Drew.

Freshman guard Hannah Miller (Rumson, N.J.) scored five straight points to put the Rangers ahead, tying the game with a three with 1:47 remaining and then giving Drew the lead 37 seconds later with a layup off her own missed three to make it 50-48 for the Rangers. Drew went 5-of-8 at the line in the final minute, which was just enough to pull out the win.

Miller finished with a game-high 18 points to lead the Rangers, while sophomore forward Courtney Stephens (Pikesville, Md.) posted a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

Roukas scored 15 points and pulled down nine rebounds for the Knights, while sophomore guard Mary Badeen (Newport, Maine) netted 11 points with five boards.

Both teams struggled from the field and at the free throw line. Drew shot 34 percent (19-56) from the field, 23 percent (3-13) from three and 56 percent (14-25) at the line, while Arcadia shot 30 percent (19-64) from the floor, 17 percent (2-12) from three and 50 percent (11-22) from the stripe.

The Knights will be back in action December 18 when they travel to Lebanon Valley College for a 6 p.m. Commonwealth Conference contest.
