Baseball Scores Six in the First Then Coasts to Win over Elizabethtown

Box Score Cheltenham, PA (March 15, 2013) - A six run first inning by the Arcadia University Knights (7-5-1, 1-0 MCOM) and stellar pitching led the Knights to a 10-2 win over the Elizabethtown College Blue Jays (4-10, 0-1) this afternoon. Jordan Hofferman earned the win allowing one run on six hits in seven innings pitch. George Pagan went 4-4 with a run scored and two RBI.

The first two Knights were retired to start the bottom of the first, but then seven straight Knights reached on five hits, a walk and an error. Jerry Smith started the rally with a single. Brendan Martin then walked and Elliott Freeman reached on an error that scored Smith. Jay Zehring then hit a two run single, David Jacobs hit an RBI single, Mike Nessel hit an RBI double and George Pagan hit a two run single to give the Knights a 6-0 lead.

Elizabethtown got one back in the second, but in the bottom of the fourth Arcadia added a seventh run as Nessel scored after Pagan got thrown out at second trying to steal to make the score 7-1. The Knights added to their advantage in the eighth as Nessel hit a first collegiate home run, a two-run shot to deep left for a 10-1 Knight lead. The Blue Jays made the final 10-2 by scoring a single run in the ninth.

Jason Goldberg pitched the final two innings, allowing a run on three hits. Nessel was 2-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. Jacobs was was 1-2 with two runs scored, an RBI and a pair of walks.

The Knghts and Blue Jays were supposed to finish their series tomorrow with a doubleheader, but it has been postponed until Sunday at 12pm due to the pending inclement weather tomorrow.
