Baseball Wins Fifth Straight; Defeats Widener

Box Score Chester, PA (March 22, 2013) - The Arcadia University Knights (9-5-1, 2-0 MCOM) won their fifth straight game this afternoon, taking the first game of a three-game series from the Widener University Pride (5-7, 1-1), 6-2. Arcadia scored single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh and then added three in the ninth for the win. Jordan Hofferman pitched seven innings of five hit ball, allowing two runs.

After three scoreless innings, the Knights got on the board in the fourth on an RBI single by Elliott Freeman. They added another run in the sixth as Justin Simpson scored on a wild pitch. In the seventh they got an unearned run as Jay Zehring scored on a throwing error by the shortstop for a 3-0 lead. Widener then cut the lead to one as they scored twice in the bottom of the seventh.

The game remained 3-2 until the ninth. David Jacobs knocked in a run with a bases loaded walk. Then Simpson hit a two-run single to left center to give the Knights a 6-2 lead. Simpson then pitched a scoreless ninth and Knights won their fifth straight.

Jason Goldberg and Simpson each pitched an scoreless inning in relief. Michael Nessel was 3-4 with a run scored. Zehring was 2-4 with two runs scored and Brandon Martin was 2-5.

Arcadia will the final two games of the series with Widener tomorrow at Erny Field. First pitch for game one of the doubleheader is 12pm.
