Box Score Cheltenham, PA (March 23, 2013) - An unearned run scored in the bottom of the seventh by the Arcadia University Knights (10-5-1, 3-1 MCOM) gave them a 10-9 win over the Widener Pride in the second game of a doubleheader this afternoon. The Knights rallied from 9-7 down, scoring two in the sixth and one in the seventh to get the win.
Widener jumped out in front with two runs in the first. Arcadia responded with two of their own the bottom of the inning as
Jay Zehring was hit by a pitch to knock in a run and
Elliott Freeman scored on a wild pitch. Widener then scored two in the second and two in the third for a 6-2 lead. Arcadia got one back in the bottom of the third on RBI infield single by
Brandon Martin.
Arcadia then tied the game in fourth with a three spot. Freeman was hit by a pitch to knock in a run,
Michael Nessel walked to knock in the second run and Zehring walked to knock in the tying run. Arcadia then took a 7-6 lead in the fifth, scoring the go ahead run on an RBI triple by
Justin Simpson. Widener then took a 9-6 lead with three unearned runs in the top of the sixth.
In the bottom of the inning, Widener returned the favor as Arcadia scored two unearned runs.
Nick Petroski hit an RBI single to score the first run and Simpson hit a RBI single to bring in the tying run. Widener could not score in the seventh, leading to the walk-off win by Arcadia.
Nessel started the inning by getting hit by a pitch. Zehring then singled, advancing Nessel.
Kyle Jackson then hit a ground ball to short and the shortstop's throw to second was wide and allowed Nessel to score the winning run.
Simpson was 2-5 with two RBI.
Jerry Smith was 1-2 with three runs scored and three walks. Petroski was 3-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Zehring got the win, pitching the final two innings.
Arcadia will get right on the field tomorrow as they travel to face Elizabethtown for a doubleheader. This is a reschedule doubleheader from last weekend's postponement.
