Tying Run Thrown Out at Plate To End Game in Knights Loss to Messiah

Box Score Cheltenham, PA (March 28, 2013) - The Arcadia University Knights (14-7-1, 6-2 MCOM) had the tying run thrown out at the plate with two in the bottom of the seventh in a 3-2 loss to the Messiah College Falcons (5-12, 2-3). The loss snaps a five game winning streak.

Arcadia entered the seventh down 3-1, but scored a run on an RBI single by David Jacobs. With runners on first and second Elliott Freeman hit a single to right, Jacobs tried to score the tying run from second, but got thrown out at the plate to end the game.

Messiah struck first in the game, scoring two runs in the top of the third. The game remained 2-0 until the bottom of the sixth when Mike Nessel scored on a throwing error after a single by Jay Zehring. Messiah got the run back in the top of the seventh on a solo homer.

Marc Gottfried took the loss, pitching six innings and allowing two runs on three hits, while striking out five. Jerry Smith was 2- in the game.

Arcadia will play the final game of this three game series on Monday afternoon at Messiah.
