Baseball Runs Winning Streak to Five After Win over Messiah in Game One of Twinbill

Box Score Cheltenham, PA (March 28, 2013) - The Arcadia University Knights (14-6-1, 6-1 MCOM) extended their winning streak to five games with a 4-2 win over the Messiah College Falcons (4-12, 1-3) this afternoon in game one of a doubleheader. Arcadia put up single runs in the first and second and then added two more in the third. Jordan Hofferman pitched five innings, allowing two runs, one earned on two hits.

After a scoreless top of the first, Arcadia got on the board in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Jerry Smith. The Knights then manufactured a run in the second. With runners on first and second, George Pagan laid down a perfect sac bunt and Nick Petroski drove in a run from third on a sac fly to left for a 2-0 lead. Messiah got one back in the third, scoring an unearned run.

Arcadia then plated a pair of runs in the third as Elliott Freeman hit an RBI double and Jay Zehring hit an RBI single for a 4-1 Knight lead. The Falcons to within 4-2 with a run in the sixth, but Jonnah van Bemmelen came in to close the door, pitching two scoreless innings.

Justin Simpson and Smith each went 2-4 with a run scored and Smith had an RBI. Mike Nessel and Pagan each went 2-3.

Arcadia has now won 10 out of 11 dating back to March 9th, with their only loss to Widener last Saturday.

Arcadia will play game against Messiah this afternoon.
