Baseball Drops Heartbreaker in 10 Innings at Stevenson in First Game of Three Game Series

Box Score Stevenson, MD (April 12, 2013) - The Arcadia University Knights (17-10-1, 9-4 MCOM) scored go head runs in the ninth and tenth, but the Stevenson University Mustangs (20-10, 9-4) tied the game in the ninth and won it in tenth, 8-7. Arcadia led 7-6 going into the bottom of the tenth, but a pair of runs by the Mustangs gave them the victory. Jerry Smith went 4-4 with a pair of runs batted in for the Knights.

Stevenson struck first with a run in the second. Arcadia then scored two in the third as Smith and Eillott Freeman each hit an RBI single for a 2-1 lead. Stevenson then scored two in the third and one in the fourth to take a 4-2 advantage. Smith hit an RBI single in the fifth to make it 4-3, but the Mustangs got that run back in the bottom of the inning for a 5-3 lead.

In the ninth the Knights scored three times to take the lead as Justin Simpson hit a two run single to tie the game and Freeman reached on a fielder's choice which scored David Jacobs for a 6-5 lead. Stevenson got the tying the run across the plate in the ninth to send the game to extra innings.

In the 10th, George Pagan hit a sac fly to drive in Brandon Martin and give Arcadia a 7-6 lead. In the bottom of the tenth, the Mustangs got a runner on due to an error and he then scored on a fielder's choice to tie the game at seven. The next batter for Stevenson drove in the winning run, making the final 8-7.

Simpson was 3-5 with a run scored and two RBI. Martin was 2-4 with two runs scored and Pagan was 2-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

These two teams will play a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon on Erny Field with first pitch for game one slated for 12pm.
