Baseball Drops Series Opener to Alvernia

Box Score Cheltenham, PA (April 26, 2013) - The Arcadia University Knights (21-14-1, 12-7 MCOM) dropped the first game of a three-game series with the Alvernia University Crusaders (32-7, 16-3) this afternoon, 9-5. The team's traded runs through the first three innings, but a two run fourth and three more in the eighth gave the Crusaders a lead they wouldn't relinguish. Elliott Freeman went 3-5 with two runs scored and two RBI to lead Arcadia.

Arcadia got on the board in the first as they loaded the bases and Taylor Schon hit a two run double for a 2-0 Knights lead. Alvernia responded by plating four in the top of the second for a 4-2 lead. In the bottom of the second Freeman hit an RBI single to cut the Alvernia advantage to one at 4-3. Justin Simpson then hit an RBI double to score Freeman and tie the score at 4-4.

In the fourth the Crusaders retook the lead, scoring twice and led 6-4. In the bottom of the inning, Freeman hit another RBI single to make the score 6-5. The fifth, sixth and seventh inning went scoreless, but then in the eighth, Alvernia added three to take a 9-5 lead.

Schon went 2-4 with two RBI.

Arcadia and Alvernia will play the back end of this three game series with a doubleheader tomorrow in Reading starting at 12pm.
