Baseball Drops Doubleheader At Alvernia

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Reading, PA (April 27, 2013) - The Arcadia University Knights (21-6-1, 12-9 MCOM) dropped a doubleheader to the Alvernia University Crusaders (30-9, 18-3) this afternoon. The Crusaders won game one 2-0 and game two 5-3, coming from behind. Both teams are heading to the MAC Commonwealth tournament next week with Alvernia as the top seed and Arcadia as the third seed.

Game one was a pitcher's duel as neither team could do much offensively. Alvernia scored the only two runs of the game in the bottom of the third. The Crusaders held the Knights to just two hits and Alvernia only had four hits. Brandon Martin had both of the Knights hits and went 2-2. Jason Goldberg took the loss, pitching six innings and allowing just one earned run on four hits.

In game two Arcadia took a 1-0 lead, scoring a run on an RBI single by George Pagan in the third. The Crusaders tied the game in the bottom of the third, but the Knights put up two runs in the fourth as Connor Arsenault scored on an error and Martin hit an RBI single. Alvernia got to within 3-2 with a run in the fourth, but then tied the game and took the lead in the sixth, scoring three runs for a 5-3 victory and doubleheader sweep. George Pagan went 2-4 with an RBI in the second game and Arsenault went 2-3 with a run scored.

Arcadia will wrap-up the regular season on Tuesday when they host Miseriecordia at 3:30pm on Erny Field.
