Baseball Falls in Regular Season Finale to Misericordia in 10 Innings

Box Score Cheltenham, PA (April 30, 2013) - The Arcadia University Knights (21-17-1) lost their regular season finale this afternoon, 12-11 in 10 innings to the Misericordia University Cougars (32-8). The Knights trailed 8-4, then led 11-8, but the Cougars scored three in the seven and one in the tenth to get the win. Jay Zehring was 2-5 with a walk, three runs scored and two RBI.

After a scoreless first it was Misericordia who scored the first run of the game in second. Arcadia tied the game and took the lead in the bottom of the inning as Jay Zehring hit an RBI triple then scored on a wild pitch for a 2-1 Knights lead. The Cougars tied the game with a run in the third and took a 3-2 lead with run in the fourth. Arcadia answered in the bottom of the fourth, scoring two of their own on an RBI single by Kyle Jackson and an RBI single by Mike Nessel for a 4-3 lead.

Misericordia then scored five times in the fifth and took an 8-4 lead. The Knights responded scoring seven times in the bottom of the fifth. Zehring and Aresenault hit back-to-back RBI singles to make it 8-6. Nessel then walked to make it 8-7 and David Jacobs hit a two-run single to give Arcadia a 9-8 lead. Then Justin Simpson and Elliott Freeman hit back-to-back RBI singles to make the score 11-8 after five innings. In the seventh, Misericordia tied the game at 11-11 scoring three runs.

The eighth and ninth innings went scoreless, but in the 10th the Cougars scored a run to take a 12-11 lead. Arcadia went in order in the bottom of the inning and Misericordia came away with the win.

Jacobs was 2-6 with a run scored and two RBI. Simpson, Freeman, Arsenault and Jackson each had two hits.

Arcadia will now head to the MAC Commonwealth Tournament on Thursday. They will take on Stevenson in their first game at 7:3pm at Owls Field in West Lawn, PA.
