Baseball Uses Another Come From Behind Effort to Take Game One from Albright

Box Score Reading, PA (April 5, 2013) - The Arcadia University Knights (16-7-1, 8-2 MCOM) used a come from behind effort this afternoon to defeat the Albright College Lions (10-10, 2-7), 8-5 in game one of a three game MAC Commonwealth series. Arcadia gave up five in the second, but then scored three in third, three in the sixth and a pair of insurance runs in the ninth to get the win. David Jacobs went 4-4 in the game with two runs scored.

After a scoreless first, Albright scored five in the second. Arcadia then began to chip away in the third as Elliott Freeman hit a two run double and Mike Nessel hit an RBI single to make the score 5-3. Then in the sixth, Justin Simpson made it 5-4 with an RBI single, Jerry Smith tied the game at 5-5 with a sac fly and Freeman gave the Knights the lead with a sac fly of his own.

The game remained 6-5 Arcadia until the top of the ninth when the Knights added a pair of insurance runs. Freeman hit an solo homer to left for a 7-5 lead and Jay Zehring ended the scoring with an RBI single. Jonnah van Bemmelen pitched a perfect ninth to secure the win and earn the save.

Jason Goldberg came into the game in the third and pitched six innings of three hit ball, striking out two to earn the victory for the Knights. Freeman was 2-3 with a run scored and four RBI. Nessel was 2-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

The final two games of the three-game set will be played tomorrow on Erny Field with a 12pm first-pitch for game one.
