Cardiac Kids Strike Again As Baseball Scores two in Bottom of the Eighth to Defeat Albright

Box Score Cheltenham, PA (April 6, 2013) - Mike Nessel's texas league single with two outs in the bottom of the eighth drove in the game winning run in the Arcadia University Knights (17-7-1, 9-2 MCOM) 3-2 win over the Albright College LIons. Arcadia trailed 2-1 going to the bottom of the eighth, but scored two unearned runs to take game two of the three game set. The win guaranteed the Knights a win in the series, their fourth straight series win in conference play.

Arcadia got on the board in the first as David Jacobs hit an RBI single. The game remained 1-0 until the sixth, when Albright tied the game. The Lions then took the lead in the eighth scoring one run. Then in the bottom of the eighth, the Knights had a runner on first with two outs. Justin Simpson reached on a single and Jerry Smith hit an RBI single to score George Pagan and tie the game at 2-2. After Elliott Freeman drew a walk to load the bases, Nessel hit a looper to shallow right field that fell between three Lions and scored Simpson for the 3-2 win.

Simpson was 4-5 with a run scored. Jacobs was 3-5 with an RBI. Jonnah van Bemmelen got the win in relief for the Knights who have won 14 out of 17 games overall and sit in first place in the MAC Commonwealth standings.

The Knights and Lions play the final game of the series later this afternoon.
